A GoFundMe campaign has been organized by steel guitarist Mike Neer on behalf of Todd Clinesmith. According to the GoFundMe fundraiser description, Todd and his family were forced to evacuate their home in Idleyld Park, Oregon when the Oregon wildfires in mid-September became a threat to their safety. Thankfully, everyone is safe and their home is still standing; however, Todd's workshop did not make it. It is a total loss, including all the machinery and tools he used in his livelihood. There are many other items and materials that were lost as well.
Many of you will know Todd as a master luthier and creator of fine steel guitars and accessories including his polymer bars. One of his most recent and sought-after instruments is his version of the Frypan lap steel guitar.
In the GoFundMe description, Mike mentions that "Todd is the type of person who is keeping a positive attitude and pushing forward, but at this time he will really need some assistance as he looks for a temporary shop to work in and the necessary machinery, tools and materials to continue operations. Insurance will help cover some costs but it won't be nearly enough."
According to Mike, "The campaign is still active and, remarkably, we've reached our goal of $30,000, which will be a big help for Todd. As of early October the campaign has raised $30,303." Mike adds, "There should be an article in the upcoming The New Yorker magazine next week, which should also help boost donations."
The fundraiser description concludes with this request from Mike: "Let's help Todd Clinesmith in his time of need. He would never ask you himself, which is why I am here starting this fundraiser. Any small amount will help. Maybe consider a deposit on a future instrument build or a tone bar. That would be an incredibly kind thing to do."
The GoFundMe fundraiser for Todd can be accessed at the GoFundMe Website. Information about Mike Neer can be obtained from his website.
