May 16, 2025 • Addison ChingNews

Hula Grill Waikiki has announced a new entertainment feature for the restaurant.

Steel Guitar Sundays will be a monthly 2-hour concert from 10:00 AM to noon featuring the Hawaiian steel guitar. This collaborative project between Hula Grill Waikiki and HIMELE helps to enhance the promotion and perpetuation the Hawaiian steel guitar.

The following is excerpted from the May 15 Hula Grill Waikiki press release.

"Hula Grill Waikiki will celebrate the sounds of Hawaii and honor the history of the steel guitar with Steel Guitar Sundays, a new program providing monthly steel guitar performances at the oceanfroont restaurant. On the first Sunday of each month, from July through the end of the year, Hula Grill Waikiki will welcome talented musicians to share their art with guests from 10 a.m. - noon.

"The program was created in collaboration with Alan Akaka, steel guitar master, chairman of the Hawaii Institute for Music Enrichment and Learning Experiences, and director of Ke Kula Mele Hawai‘i. Akaka will kick off Steel Guitar Sundays with a live performance at the restaurant on July 6, and continue to support future events."
