The Old Wailuku Inn at Ulupono will be the site of the Livestream Steel Guitar Saturday presentation for November 20, 2021.
The Maui Bread and Breakfast is known for its homey accommodations and provides guests with a true local Hawaii experience in a one-of-a-kind setting.
Fodor's Expert Review of the property says this about the Old Wailuku Inn: "Built in 1924 and listed on the State of Hawai‘i Register of Historic Places, this home with knowledgeable innkeepers offers the charm of old Hawai‘i, including authentic decor and architecture." The review continues, "Each room is decorated with the theme of a Hawaiian flower."
The poetry of Don Blanding and "My Hawaiian Garden" are the basis for The Old Wailuku Inn at Ulupono. The theme of the inn is reminiscent of the 1920s, a bygone era when Hawaii was just a quiet string of islands in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.
The Inn's owners, Tom and Janice Fairbanks, envisioned creating "My Hawaiian Garden" for their guests. In 1997, The Old Wailuku Inn at Ulupono opened its doors, sharing the sweet fragrance of jasmine, colorful croton hedges, and ginger plants from the Hawaiian garden.
The Inn and its garden provide a lovely scenic backdrop for the Livestream Showcase performances.
Emcee Alan Akaka and Maui celebrity personality Kathy Collins will interview Tom Fairbanks during the program to learn more about the Old Wailuku Inn. Kathy has been the emcee for live Maui Steel Guitar Festivals since 2014.
If the name Tom Fairbanks sounds familiar, it is because he was instrumental in organizing the Maui Steel Guitar Festival while he was Food and Beverage Director at the Ka‘anapali Beach Hotel.
Now that he has his own venue, he wants to continue the tradition of sharing the music of the Hawaiian steel guitar.
The Livestream Steel Guitar Saturday Showcase will be broadcast live on the Hawaiian Steel Guitar Showcase's Facebook Page and YouTube Channel beginning at 3PM Hawaiian Standard Time and feature Maui steel guitarists Joel Katz and Geronimo "Geri" Valdriz.
Also appearing are steel guitarists Maka‘iwa Ho and Greg Juan who are students of steel guitarist Ross Ka‘a‘a.
