Livestream: Maui Steel Guitar Festival Reprise

A special Hawaiian Steel Guitar Showcase presentation will be broadcast on October 14, 2023, the date of the now-canceled 2013 Maui Steel Guitar Festival.

The Maui Steel Guitar Festival Reprise will feature video clips from past Maui Steel Guitar Festival performances from 2013 to 2019.

Maui Steel Guitarists Ross Ka‘a‘a, Joel Katz, Geronimo "Geri" Valdriz, Sam Ako, and Konapiliahi Lau will be featured as well as other steel guitarists appearing at the Maui festivals including Owana Salazar, Duke Kaleolani Ching, and Eddie Palama.

Also included in the presentation will be Tony Locke and Combo Mahalo, and Japanese steel guitar groups Makana, Makoto Shiraishi and Coco Music Society, Anegogumi, Lion Halau, Yokomama Hawaiian Music Society, Kanika Pila, and Japanese steel guitarists Tetsuya Ishiyama and Tadashi Arakawa.

The two hour presentation will also include videos from NextGen steel guitarists Alexis Tolentino, Keen Ching, and Joey Misailidis.

The videos represent Maui steel guitarists as a tribute to the ongoing rebuilding effort in Maui. The videos include performances of other steel guitarists who appeared at the Maui festivals and who have not recently appeared in any recent HIMELE-produced steel guitar festivals.

The special livestream program will be broadcast on Saturday, October 14, beginning at 3:00 PM HST on the Hawaiian Steel Guitar Showcase's Facebook Page and YouTube Channel.
